Hello and welcome to the first edition of Bonjour Motherfuckers, a column whose regularity will probably vary greatly, depending on numerous factors that include the flood levels of the Seine, the price of the baguette, and the number of strikes going on these days. Bonjour Motherfuckers will bring you some of the best new music being created in France right now without any genre prejudices, perhaps even making you fall in love with a new artist altogether — after all, who doesn’t yearn for a French affair?

Starting this week, I’ll be sharing with you some of the most exciting releases happening in croissant country, be them singles, albums, videos, or chocolate éclair recipes, showing you that the party is always livelier on the other side of the channel. So put on your favourite red beret and dive into this selection of amazing musical offerings from artists who are anything but des incompétents.

DyE releases new album Inside Out

Any column about French music that doesn’t begin with an electronica act is utter bullshit, so our first pick comes from producer Juan de Guillebon (aka DyE) in the form of his third full-length - an engaging yet refreshing gem called Inside Out. Refined and exotic, intense and laid-back, Inside Out is the latest release from Tigersushi (the label that gave us the likes of Joakim and Poni Hoax). You can enjoy it in full right now via most streaming platforms.

VedeTT shares video for ‘It Seems To Be Natural’

His debut album Tuer Les Gens (literally “to kill people”) - having unfortunately coincided with the Bataclan shootings - took some time for people to pick-up on. The dark neo-post-wave of Angers-based Nerlov, aka VedeTT, is damn impressive. His most recent EP Losing All was released last December via Echo Orange, but even though it slipped under my radar back then I am now discovering it thanks to the recently-unveiled clip for ‘It Seems To Be Natural’. You should do the same.

Th Da Freak drops new album The Hood

I already wrote about this amazing collection of '90s-fulled lo-fi neo-grunge tracks from Bordeaux-based Thoineau Palis (TH Da Freak), so I will merely stress that you’re missing out big time if you haven’t given The Hood a spin yet. Another remarkable artist from Howlin Banana Records, Palis is rumoured to drop another two LPs before the end of the year.

J.C. Satàn release first taster from upcoming LP Centaur Desire

Bordeaux-based stoner-doomers J.C. Satàn are no newcomers; their debut album Sick Of Love came out eight years ago, and since then they've released three more plus a handful of singles and EPs. Centaur Desire, their newest full-length offering which is set to hit the shelves on March 2nd via Born Bad Records, is previewed via first single ‘I Won’t Come Back’.

T/O unveils video for ‘Gozilla’

Meet Théo Cloux, aka T/O, a Strasbourg-based musician that describes his music as “jahwave” and whose debut album Ominous Signs is expected to drop on March 2nd via October Tone. Having shared first single ‘A Dog In The Sleeve’ earlier in the year, he’s back with a superb video for ‘Gozilla’ - a track slightly psych-driven with a touch of kraut and even free jazz.
