"It was simply impossible to open a shop in the [Peterborough] town centre," explains Marrs Plectrum Records store owner Matthew Hawton. "This way we can keep the costs down which is great for our customers. I can’t complain about the commute to work either."

It's a possible ingenious move for Hawton, who debuted his ultra-tiny record store in the recent re-emergence of vinyl sales - both in the UK and world-wide. But for Hawton, the love for the format never eroded.

"For many of us, vinyl has never been away," he explains in a recent interview with Gigwise, "but its popularity is certainly on the rise. "It’s an exciting time for record collectors."

"New and relevant bands are all releasing their music on vinyl again," he happily continues. "It's at the point where the pressing plants can’t keep up with demand. That’s why we’re mixing new releases with the classics and collectibles."

For the fan of both tiny things and vinyl records - which is pretty much everyone - Marrs Plectrum Records is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with limited hours on Saturdays. Visit it at 387 Fulbridge Road, Peterborough, PE4 6SF.
