Indie rockers British Sea Power will be releasing their fifth studio album, Machineries Of Joy, on April 1 through Rough Trade Records.

"We'd like to think the album is warm and restorative," says singer Yan. "Various things are touched on in the words – Franciscan monks, ketamine, French female bodybuilders turned erotic movie stars. The world often seems a mad, hysterical place at the moment. You can't really be oblivious to that."

To help celebrate the release of a record they hope will be "an antidote" to the world's madness, the Brighton-based band have also announced details of a U.K. tour, with 11 cities playing host to their famed live performances throughout April (dates below):

  • Thurs 4– Exeter Phoenix
  • Fri 5 – Birmingham Library
  • Sat 6 – Newcastle University
  • Sun 7 – Glasgow Oran Mor
  • Tues 9 – Leeds Met University
  • Weds 10 – Nottingham Rescue Rooms
  • Thurs 11 – Manchester Gorilla
  • Sun 14 – Cardiff Coal Exchange
  • Mon 15 – Portsmouth Wedgewood
  • Tues 16 – Norwich Waterfront
  • Weds 17 – London Shepherd's Bush Empire

Tickets are on sale now from the band's website, where you can also pre-order the album at the same time. And if that's not enough, the first 500 people to order the album will receive a limited-edition bonus CD with new recordings and some unique artwork by the band.
