The good people in Canada are blessed with the talents of many strong bands, but few have the potential of Bodywash. The four-piece, which was formed at the prestigious McGill University, have developed a lush, beautiful sound that couples the best of 80s synth pop with the moody atmospherics of shoegaze. The end result is a song like the group's latest single, 'Eye To Eye,' which is, pound for pound, one of the best singles released this year.

Starting with a heavy coating of scuzzed out synths, accentuated by a distant twinkle, 'Eye To Eye' builds beautifully under the power of its gorgeous guitar textures. A dreamy, airy vocal performance fills up the remaining space with the kind of emotionality that immediately seeps into your pores.

'Eye To Eye' is a song for many occasions, but I feel it is best when you have curled up in bed late at night, with maybe only some soft lighting keeping the room illuminated, as your mind floats to thoughts of your dearest loved one. But 'Eye To Eye' would serve you just as a well on a car ride or even on the dance floor thanks to a surprisingly funky musical bridge.

But while the song is certainly a delight no matter how or when you listen to it, Bodywash says the song was to figure out how the best human relationships emerge, what facilitates their success.

"Any lasting relationship, whether romantic, platonic, or somewhere in between, relies on a level of mutual understanding; a commitment on both sides to keep the connection watered and fed," explains Bodywash. "'Eye to Eye' is a meditation on this reality."
