Cat Power is going to release her new album Wanderer on October 5th, and so far she has shared the empowering title track and Lana Del Rey duet 'Woman'. For the third taster of what's to come on the long-awaited album she has delivered a stunning version of Rihanna and Mykki Ekko's 'Stay'. She explains her decision for the rendition, saying:

“I love the tradition of covering songs. I think it’s one of the highest compliments you can pay another artist. It's one of the great traditions in American music and one of the true pleasures of music history.”

While the original version of 'Stay' is a heartfelt ballad, Chan Marshall's take is even more skeletal and vulnerable. Her voice is quivering, front and centre, accompanied by simple piano and very slight atmospheric strings. Below you can hear Cat Power's version of 'Stay' with a video capturing spellbinding solo performance at the Los Angeles studio of Rob Schnapf, filmed by frequent Cat Power collaborator Greg Hunt.

Domino will release Wanderer on October 5th and can be pre-ordered here.
