Former Verve drummer Pete Salisbury will stand in for Jon Brookes on The Charlatans’ upcoming tour, the band has announced.

Salisbury will accompany The Charlatans on their UK tour in October, which includes dates at the O2 Academy in Brixton and the Manchester Apollo.

Charlatans reps revealed yesterday that Brookes would be undergoing treatment in the UK for a brain tumour after collapsing on stage at a gig in Philadelphia last week, causing the band’s US dates to be postponed.

He is expected to have an operation later this week.

Salisbury is a founding member of The Verve and has also performed with bands including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who called in the 38-year-old when original drummer Nick Jago was refused a working visa.
