Josh T. Pearson is somethng of an enigma. Although he has been writing and recording music for over 20 years, he only has two official albums released, Lift To Experience's 2001 opus The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads and his 2011 solo debut Last Of The Country Gentlemen. Both of these albums have earned him a cult following, so it is no small deal that Pearson has announced that he will have a new album called The Straight Hits! coming out on April 13th.

There is a thematic continuity to The Straight Hits! in that every track on the album features the word "straight" or some version of it. In order to write the songs that comprise the album he set himself some guidelines, The Five Pillars, as detailed below.

Josh T. Pearson’s The Five Pillars:
1) All songs must have a verse, a chorus and a bridge.
2) The lyrics must run 16 lines or less.
3) They must have the word ‘straight’ in the title.
4) That title must be four words or less.
5) They must submit to song above all else. (“You do as she tells you, whatever the song tells you,” Pearson explains. “You bend to her, and not her to you.”).

These rules, along with his state of mind have given him a new lease of life it seems: “In the last years I learned to dance, take drugs, make love… choose life. I got rid of the beard, cut my hair and started wearing colour. I burned down all my idols and realized in the process that I needed to burn down my reputation as fast as I could too. I felt constricted by the old stuff and I didn’t like being in a cage. It wasn’t letting me move on.”

'Straight To The Top', the first single from the album, is certainly much more energetic and rocking than anything on his debut solo release, and suggests that The Straight Hits! will hew closer to Lift To Experience's sound. Judge for yourself by listening to 'Straight To The Top' below and check out his tour dates beneath.
