Rising grime star Novelist dropped a surprise track a few days ago called 'Ignorant and Wot' and it's our Track of the Day. You'll know him from, most recently, his collaborative 1 Sec EP with Mumdance, which saw the producer creating experimental, ultra-minimalist and surgically cut beats for Nov.

Now the rapper has taken to production duties himself, creating a stripped back, moody atmosphere filled with clacking percussion – the essence of grime, parsed down to its necessary elements: a beat with no over-complications. We already thought that he sounded a little like a Boy In Da Corner-era Dizzee Rascal in the Mumdance collaboration, but its in 'Ignorant and Wot' that we find a unique Novelist, taking that early grime sound, making it his own with plenty dark reverb and an unnerving hook, and spitting over it with a mix of pragmatic self-consciousness and social commentary. He continues what Dizzee started and we're on board.
