Melbourne band City Calm Down put out their debut In This Restless House in 2015, an album which quickly saw them gain attention, recognition and adoration in their home nation thanks to its grandiose rock ambitions and clean-cut but emotive execution.

Now City Calm Down is gearing up to release their second album in early 2018, and with it make the spring to worldwide notoriety. We have the pleasure of premiering the first taste of this sophomore effort, in the form of the new single 'In This Modern Land'. The song takes no time in introducing itself, immediately taking flight upon broad-winged guitars that survey the land below, brilliantly rendered by the rest of the band, coalescing around this central force in a sound of pure propulsion. The trajectory is carved out by singer Jack Bourke, who sings of isolation and singularity, giving the song an overcast hew, only lightened by the flecks of horns that adorn the surroundings.

City Calm Down say of the as-yet-untitled second album, that they "wanted to introduce new musical ideas whilst retaining the many production qualities and melancholic tension present on In A Restless House. It was difficult getting the balance right between stepping too far to the left and repeating [them]selves."

UK fans can get a preview of the new material from City Calm Down when they arrive on our shores this month. They'll be back again to promote the new album more in March, with dates to be announced soon. Check out their November UK dates below.
