Miami artist Clarence Reid, who was renowned for making his raps X-rated under the colourful alias of Blowfly, has passed away at the age of 76.

Writing for soul and funk artists throughout the 60's and 70's, including Betty Wright's 'Clean Up Woman' and Gwen McCrae's 'Rocking Chair,' Clarence was Miami label TK Records' prided songwriter. But he also released almost 30 albums under his sexually explicit alter-ego Blowfly and has been sampled by artists like Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Shadow and the Avalanches over the years.

According to his drummer Tom Bowker, Blowfly will release one final album, 77 Rusty Trombones in February.
