American troubadour Damien Jurado has announced his new album The Horizon Just Laughed for release through Secretly Canadian on May 4th. It's his thirteenth studio album, in a career that stretched back to the 90s - but this is the first time he has self-produced.

His novice status as producer is certainly not obvious from the lead single 'Over Rainbows and Rain'. It's a spare acoustic track, mostly with just Jurado on his guitar and using his weathered voice to weave his gentle and poetic images. Then, just at the right moment, there is a little sprinkle of orchestral magic, subtly slid in there to bring an extra vividness to the song's title, 'Over Rainbows and Rain'. Check it out below.
