With three releases in three years, the Los Angeles-based band Second Still emerged as a strong heir-apparent to the legacy of the '80s best darkwave bands. But on the group's upcoming LP, Violet Phase, Second Still proves that is not merely excelling in its genre, it is on track to being one of 2019's most talked about groups.

Lead single 'New Violet' finds the band at its most foreboding. An arpeggiated synth bass twists around the song's vocals, which draw from eerie passages of a sermon. A dissonant saxophone and violin fill in the gaps around the band's synthesizers and punching drum machine. The result is something as beautiful as it is menacing.

According to the band, the song is "about dedication despite ingratitude and failure," and "it was inspired by a family member practitioner of Korea’s Moon religion."

Second Still's Violet Phase is due out on May 17, with LPs and CDs through Fabrika Records and a cassette run via sentimental Records. You can stream 'New Violet' up above and you can view the band's upcoming tour dates down below.
