The album which defined David Bowie's career, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this summer and to celebrate the album is getting a remastered reissue. Being made available on both CD and vinyl, it is expected to be released on June 5th, with the vinyl coming packed with an audio DVD of previously unreleased mixes of some of the albums tracks.

The concept album is based on the fictional character of Ziggy Stardust, an alien who attempts to deliver a message to the people of a dying earth through the medium of rock music. The album was released in 1972, peaking at number 5 in the UK album chart. Amazingly the lead single from the album, 'Starman', only just broke the top ten in the UK singles chart, while only reaching 65 in the US billboard chart.
