Could any band ever replace Blur on the line up of Big Day Out Festival? Well, three apparently...

Damon Albarn and co. are set to is be replaced by Deftones, The Hives, and - get this - Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye. The three bands now announced will be joining Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire in the 2014 edition.

"Devastated to report that Blur won't be performing at BDO in 2014," Blur posted on their Facebook last month. "It's a shock that it has come to this. Only 8 weeks to go, the band feels that with the constantly shifting goalposts and challenging conditions of the organisers, they can't let it drag on any longer and want to make this announcement, to be clear to Blur fans that they won't be there. We've done our very best to work with the organisers and considered every option to make it happen, but they've let us down and let everyone else down too."

Tickets holders were not pleased at all; Billboard reports that festival's co-promoter AJ Maddah has vowed to refund everyone that isn't happy with the new bill additions. Last year's event marked the 20 year anniversary of the festival and was described by founder Ken West as "a total fiasco". [via NME]
