John Singleton, a director famous for a filmography that includes Boyz n the Hood, Four Brothers, and 2 Fast 2 Furious is working on a biopic that will depict the life of the late Tupac Shakur. Shakur starred in Singleton's 1993 film Poetic Justice opposite Janet Jackson, starting a working relationship that Singleton wishes could have continued, telling the Hollywood Reporter: "Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with. His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation."

The untitled project has been in the works for years, but Singleton will rewrite and direct it, producing it with the help of James G. Robinson and David Robinso of Morgan Creek Productions, and Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, who will serve as an executive producer on the film.
