German mad-hatter DJ Koze will be releasing his long-awaited studio album knock knock next month, and he's already given us a couple of tantalising previews in the form of 'Seeing Aliens' and the Róisín Murphy feature 'Illumination'. Today he delivers his third taster in the form of 'Pick Up'.

Although the album is set to feature a host of excellent guests, 'Pick Up' is Koze on his own, doing his own brilliant thing. A guaranteed floor-filler (in fact, we have already seen it played out by Mano Le Tough to a packed audience who lapped it up), 'Pick Up' is lightweight tech-house at its airy best. Loping along on an infectious guitar loop and a sprightly rhythm, 'Pick Up' reaches top gear when Koze enfolds into it a perfectly selected soul sample. As the seductive voice intones "neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye," Koze chops and delays it perfectly to match up with his space dance creation, eking out all the gut punching emotion held within that one simple phrase. At once damning in its sadness, but euphoric in its insistence that you dance, 'Pick Up' is a slice of bliss.

If you dig it as much as we do, there's a 10 minute extended version also on streaming platforms, as well as a non-album b-side 'The Love Truck'. DJ Koze's knock knock comes out through Pampa on May 4th - pre-order here, and he plays Printworks Saturday 5th May with tickets being able to be found here.
