Is there a difference between a vocalist and a singer? I guess the first implies some sort of raw talent coupled with a fair amount of 'professional training'. Still, Kelela never received it, and that's probably to her benefit.

On her new mixtape Cut 4 Me (which unfortunately reminds me of that awkward Justin Beiber trending topic that heralded the beginning of his Britney circa 2007, wild phase) she shows that she possesses rawness that could potentially take her further than some of those classically trained vocalists. She's futuristic, seemingly inspired by electronic but with a classic soul inspiration about her too.

The mixtape showcases a great variety of producers too, from Girl Unit to NGUZUNGUZU. This Cut 4 Me isn't one to be slept on.
