In the past few years the label Mexican Summer has put on the Marfa Myths Festival in Texas. Aside from being an all out experience for body, mind and soul, they have also put into place a scheme whereby they put two artists in the studio together to see what they can record together. Previously we've had instalments from Dev Hynes and Connan Mockasin in 2015 and Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood in 2016. 2018 will see Deerhunter's Bradford Cox teaming up with Cate Le Bon, but we'll have to wait until next year to hear the very intriguing fruits of that partnership.

In 2017 it was the turn of Woods and Sweden's Dungen to head to the Marfa Recording Studio and see what they could come up with. The two bands had previously bonded and learned of each other's ways on tour together in 2008. This was evidently very helpful as they headed into the studio together, yielding 7 tracks - the longest release in the Myths series yet.

"My favourite memories of the experience aren’t even from recording, but I think they really set up my state of mind for the whole trip. One was that first morning in the house where everyone - Woods, Dungen, Mexican Summer folks and their families – was staying, just drinking coffee and staring out the window across the desert, slightly blinded by the sun but still able to make out the silhouettes of kids playing outside. The other was watching porn in the local movie theatre with what felt like the entire town. Two totally disparate moments, but they both gave me a really strong sense of community.”

You can hear that lightness and sunshine pouring into 'Turn Around', the first track to be shared from the project. Listen below.

Myths 003 will be released through Mexican Summer on March 30th.
