The Toronto-based pop of Maxime Gordon, who performs under the moniker Bénédicte, is equal parts haunting and beautiful. By coupling her stunning, soaring voice with electronic flourishes, she has made an astounding aural achievement not unlike that of experimental vocalist GABI.

On 'Backbone,' Bénédicte takes her time and lets the track breathe, allowing her voice and an occasional kick drum to carry much of the first minute before the song's overwhelming atmosphere swells up from beneath and wraps the listener in a warm blanket of sonic beauty.

Her debut self-titled EP is now streaming over at Ride The Tempo. It is certainly worth a listen.
