Lauren Crown has recently unfurled her debut EP, The Adult Youth (it's free to boot). It's a sultry neo-soul affair, mottled with red-lit trip-hop synths and distant beats – there's also a vibrant '90s streak in her voice, recalling the slick tones of R&B icons that were hot back when Zack Morris was drool-worthy and the world was still free of Pitbull. It's the kind of urban noise that mixes effervescent sensuality and midnight isolation; it's draped in elegant production from upcomer Aaron Paul and seamless electronics that crackle and glide. While there are similarities to Stateside acts like Frank Ocean, she carves a niche all her own by implementing the very British stylings of Lamb, Portishead and Massive Attack.
