Sad news for the world of both film and music: American composer James Horner died in a plane crash on Monday evening in the Santa Barbara area of California. His death, initially only presumed, was later confirmed by his assistant Sylvia Patrycja, although the cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Horner is best known for his astounding contribution to the world of film scores, which includes the likes of Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, and Titanic, for which he received two Academy Awards for Best Original Dramatic Score and Best Original Song ('My Heart Will Go On').
