The Radio 6 Music Festival heads to Tyneside for its 2015 iteration. The news was announced by Lauren Laverne herself, who had this to say about it all:

I'm so excited that this year's 6 Music Festival is taking us back to my home in the Northeast. It's going to be an incredible weekend of music, not to be missed. The Festival is a celebration of the music and culture we and our listeners love so much.

First announced for the festival is The War On Drugs, whose album Lost In The Dream was 6 Music's album of the year 2014 (and who are also nominated for an award at this years BRITs).

Last year's Mercury Prize winners, Young Fathers, will also be performing. Neneh Cherry's gonna be there too.

A nice surprise is Hot Chip! They'll be there! And they'll be playing some new material, which is always lovely.

Purveyor of ambient and intelligent beats, Jon Hopkins has just been announced, as well as Maximo Park.

Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements as the day goes on.

For more details on the festival itself, as well as (most importantly!) how to get yourself some tickets, please head on over to bbc.co.uk/6music.
