Why does it seem like the older we get, the faster the year goes by? And why does it seem like the more time passes, the more music we end up cramming into each month? Oh look, the first quarter of 2016 is gone already. Let's assess the damages.

As award show season becomes festival season, moody dark soundscapes are replaced with more opulent production and the year's first quarter fades into its second, it's important to stop and reflect, even for just a moment. 2016 came through like a raging sonic bull, following one of the most quality years in popular music in decades, offering major creative wins and tragic losses. As we said goodbye to icons like David Bowie and A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg, we welcomed blockbuster albums from Kanye West and Rihanna, while also managing to add a few new names to our favourites list as well.

From EPs to albums and remixes to videos, catch up on the best of 2016's Q1 before we move on to the year's part two. With a supreme start, there won't be anywhere to look but forward after this. (After all, we're still waiting on that Frank Ocean album.)
