Fleetwood Mac have announced that their co-founder John McVie has been diagnosed with cancer and due to his treatment the band have cancelled their Australian and New Zealand tour.

The type of cancer has not yet been made public, but the band have issued a statement saying that McVie will be undergoing treatment during November and as a consequence the band will not be playing their scheduled 14-date tour.

The group have said: "We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates. We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best."

Having only announced the news yesterday via their website and Facebook page, the message has already received over 6,152 responses from fans wishing the bass player a fast return to health on the social media site.
