Frank Ocean wrote a Tumblr post in 2016 in which he reflects on a time that his father called a transgender waitress a homophobic slur as he dragged him out of the diner. "That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t," Frank wrote in the wake of the Orlando shooting last year.

His father then filed a libel lawsuit against him, looking for $14.5 million in damages. But a California judge ruled in favor of Frank. "It was a super sad case. I am sorry that my client had to go through this and am glad that we could bring closure," his lawyer said to Pitchfork.
