Tuesday Sam Baker @ The Luminaire, London Insightful and deeply personal folk music in the vein of Townes van Zandt and John Prine at this suitably intimate venue in North London this evening. Wednesday The Dodos @ Thelka, Bristol Like a less digitalised Animal Collective this two piece band, joined by a third live are an exhilirating live performance. Psychadelic folk at its very best with some fabulous drumming from Logan Kroeber. Thursday An Evening with Brian Wilson @ The Roundhouse, London This is destined to be a Greatest Hits show like no other. Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame performing tracks from his latest release That Lucky Old Sun for which he worked with Van Dyke Parks. He will be accompanied on stage by a ten piece band and you can expect to hear all the classics! The sound in this venue is usually impeccable so it should make for a fantastic evening. Friday Okkervil River @ Club Academy, Manchester Infectious, happy, kind of arrogant but probably rightly so....I do bloody adore this band live. While The Stand Ins was a bit too tongue in cheek clever it could almost be seen as just another generic "indie" record; they are actually an incredibly smart band. With lyrics that punch you in the stomach and vocals from front man Will Sheff that are uttered with the most imploring urgency they are definately a band you wish you knew from the beginings of their career. Saturday David Ford @ Bloomsbury Theatre, London David Ford may still be pretty under the radar but with his recent supporting slots with the likes of Ray Lamontagne and Aimee Mann, and The Boss and Neil Young tipping their hats to his name he will certainly be creeping out of the wood work more speedily between now and the new year. Sunday Tori Amos @ Apollo, Manchester Tori has been making music for over two decades and tonight brings her Abnormally Addicted to Sin tour to the UK where she will play four shows to showcase her new material. Expect a great mix from the pianist' back catalogue with the favourites of "Cornflake Girl" and "Silent All These Years" bound to be heard.
