Last year Girlpool released their second album Powerplant, expanding their sound and their audience with confident alt-rock songs. One outspoken fan of their work is Dev Hynes, best known for his current project Blood Orange, with whom they've found time to team up and record; "i'm such a fan of Girlpool, and loved working with them. Their harmonies are some of my favourites that are out there," he says.

The result is the stand alone song 'Picturesong', with Hynes contributing keyboards, guitars, backing vocals, and mixing. It's a much darker and more haunting affair than we've heard from Girlpool before, matching perfectly with the new picture they've put out to accompany it (seen above). Talking about the meaning of 'Picturesong', the band says it "is a word invented to explore what we create in each other when we want to feel deep love because of loneliness or otherwise, and brings into question the reality and delusion of the things we feel."
