I think it took me three or four watches to catch it, but ‘100%,’ the new collaboration between Auckland, New Zealand-based dance-pop producer Boycrush, and internationally-minded fellow Kiwis Yumi Zouma, somehow catches the feel of ‘My Boo’ by Ghost Town DJ’s, and reframes it within Boycrush’s uptempo tropical bounce, and Yumi Zouma’s reflective, sun-kissed synth-pop.

Directed by Hayden Eastmond-Mein, the ‘100%’ video clip was originally constructed out of stock green screen footage of dancers sourced off Shutterstock, before Haydn and Boycrush (real name: Alistair Deverick) decided to reshoot everything in the same style with assistance of a cast of friends turned expressive dance actors. As Hayden told New Zealand pop culture website The Spinoff, “They all have great comedic timing and got the weird vibe we were after – plus they’re pretty amazing movers.

'100%' comes from Boycrush’s mercurial new album Desperate Late Night Energy, which aside from Yumi Zouma, features vocal appearances from Chelsea Jade, Madeira, Benny’s Videos and additional mixing and production assistance from Bevan Smith of Introverted Dancefloor. You can stream it now on Spotify and Apple Music.
