Every once in a while, Google decides that a change is needed. Hangouts, Maps and even that social service Google Plus have all come under the UX magnifying glass over the recent years but now it is the time of Gmail to have it's most extreme makeover yet.

Streamline for the future

The new test design disposes with elements that have been apparent on the service since its conception and launch in 2004. 10 years is a long time so maybe it is time for the sidebar to be kicked to the kerb and replaced with a new better looking layout. I for one think that the only functionality that needs to be fixed is the inclusion of G+ in everything; I really could do without sorting my emails by social-bility.
