Nike and Arsenal FC have set the pre-carnival ball rolling when they play host to a summer BBQ and night of forward thinking music at 1948, Shoreditch. ‘Continuing to celebrate the football clubs 125th Anniversary, ‘Grassroots’ is a fortnight of boundary pushing beats and events, with tonight being hosted by Radio 1 DJ, Deviation overlord and Gunner Benji B.

The first event will be held tonight, and is headlined by none other than turntable prodigy Hudson Mowhawke. ‘Satin Panthers’ can be counted as some of his most commanding and significant work yet, and fits aesthetic of the event perfectly. ‘Thunder Bay’ will definitely go down well.

HudMo is supported by Blood Orange, of Test Icicles and Lightspeed Champion fame. Dev Hynes debut release under the Orange alias has been received strongly by critics, the latest morph into indie-dance rock much welcomed. There’s an understated appreciation to Coastal Grooves, the subtle production tweaks and nuances moulding together quite thematically. Elsewhere Ninja Tune producer Raffertie will be on hand to provide some genre bending exploits to top off the bill.

Nando’s will be providing the BBQ (who else?) and with Havana Club cocktails to round it all off, East rather than West London will be gearing up for Carnival this evening. If you want to get involved you can email to apply for tickets.
