Trained musicians or not, we’ve all sat down at a piano and plonked around at the keys. We wish we could be as humble as James Leesley of High Hazels. He offers a gorgeous ballad in ‘All Your Best Inventions’ and has the humility to tag it as ‘(Piano Demo)’.

Recorded live in one take, the reflective lyrics recall when Father John Misty tickles the ivories; “All your best inventions never seem to work when you need them,” Leesley laments. But he knows that sometimes, we resist doing things that we know would make us feel better. (“Why you in your clothes for work still?”) What plans they have for the track remains to be seen, but with their second album on the horizon for this year, we hope they put it to good use.
