Looks like a deal to rescue HMV is finally here, saving 2,500 jobs.

Music Week reports that Hilco have signed a contract to take over some 130 HMV stores and nine Fopp outlets in a deal worth £50million. Hilco have already turned around the fortunes of the ill fated brand over in Canada and will now look to rescue one of the last remaining iconic chains on UK high streets.

Deloitte were appointed as the administrator for HMV back in January after sales had slumped in recent times however Hilco stepped in fairly quickly to buy HMV's reported 176 million pound debt for £40m. Many high profile music labels and film studios have given the deal their backing and are keen to agree new supply deals to save one of the UK\s last remaining outlets for physical movies and music.

The new company is set to be made up of existing HMV execs as well as Hilco staff and plans are already in place to re-establish the brand in Ireland by reopening a store in Dublin following the closure of sixteen stores earlier this year.
