Rapidshare, the file hosting service, is to close after 13 years of being in the game. When we say 'file storage' we are obviously referring to the storing of illegalities that the website has become infamous for, but thanks to increasing pressure from the authorities, plus rivals doing it better, Rapidshare has decided to call it quits.

The federal and international authorities have never been very fair on Rapidshare, and file sharing sites in general, so this was bound to happen; that and a fledgling workforce after 45 members of staff were let go in 2013. Is this is a sign of the times? Pirate Bay is continually being shut down due to consistent pressure from the feds, so maybe services that mirror Rapidshare will bow out too?

The official statement is as follows:

"Dear RapidShare Customers

Kindly note that RapidShare will stop the active service on March 31st, 2015. Extensions of STANDARD PLUS and PREMIUM will be possible until February 28th, 2015.

We strongly recommend all customers to secure their data. After March 31st, 2015 all accounts will no longer be accessible and will be deleted automatically.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send us an e-mail to support@rapidshare.com

Thank you for many years of trust.
Your RapidShare Team."

Looks like you're going to have to store that album elsewhere now.
