There is something magical about sunlight pouring through the trees as you dance with hundreds of others at a stage hidden in the forest. No other festival had quite the energy, passion, and consideration for the music, art, and attendees as this did. It was at this moment on the last day that I realized everyone present was truly part of the "Forest Family".

Electric Forest, a four day festival in Rothbury, MI, brings people from all over the continent to experience a variety of music genres by day and a technicolor forest wonderland by night. I witnessed thousands, first timers and repeat attendees alike, lose themselves in the neon trees with eyes wide in childlike fascination.

Outside the festival, colourful tents strewn with tapestries, signs, flags, and inflatable animals went for as far as the eye could see. There was never a quiet moment; with music continuing from the grounds to the campsite well past sunrise. It was here that strangers became friends as they conversed about similar music interests, cross country adventures, and stories of past festivals.

I bounced from stage to stage, hearing everything from dubstep to jam bands, and house to synth pop while spending time with artists Minnesota, Trevor Hall, Gramatik, and Miami Horror. Headliners drew massive crowds and the sea of totems, glow sticks, and hoops illuminated the biggest main stage dance party I'd ever been part of. Smaller stages held the same captivating energy but allowed for more space to express yourself or simply chill out.

Seeing more than twenty artists live for the first time, signing a Volkswagen bus, and helping construct a geodesic dome of hammocks just added to the overall experience. As I shouted my last "Happy Forest!" in the early hours of Monday, I was already planning in my head for the return to this unique place.
