Last year a band by the name of The Old Romantic Killer Band released an EP so great that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, formed a discussion group and created a petition called 'Interview The Old Romantic Killer Band'. My first thought was "Wow, that's a pretty rubbish, yet descriptive, name for a petition" but god dammit, they were right. Here it is. For the people out there that don't know who you are could you tell us a little bit about you? We are The Old Romantic Killer Band. it's me and Greg, he plays drums as hard as he can whilst I play blues/folk/pop but as loud as I can - we're aiming to create something aggressive and raw but melodic and shit too. What's with the name? No more name questions! I don’t really know of many other bands like yourselves that come from Britain. Do you feel you’re part of any scene? Hmm, the scene.. I don't know - its kind of stupid on paper to be white and English trying to play music which is inherently black and African, but there are a bunch of bands in the UK who play loudly and aggressively, which we definitely relate to. We're not big on scenes really though, as soon as we feel we are getting lumped in with one, we immediately do something to remove that tag, you know? What/Who are your influences? Influences? er..musically Skip James, John Martyn, Nick Drake, Leadbelly, Nirvana, Black Flag. pretty standard issue influences really. You’re currently an unsigned band. Do you feel the pressure of being unsigned or are you happy with the situation you’re in? Yeah we're unsigned but we have killer managers and a wicked booking agent and a record out you can buy from Tesco if you want so I think that's pretty awesome. 2009 is gonna rule too, so we're pretty stoked. 2008 saw you release the great ‘The Swan With Two Necks’, are you proud of it? Yeah we're proud of our new record! we purposely didn't take any time over it - 3 days in fact. keep it raw and fresh sounding, which I think it is. we're demoing at the moment and its even rawer which is interesting. What sort of writing process do you go through? I write a song. then Greg and I make it 38 times louder and faster, basically. What bands should we be looking out for in 2009? Other bands for 2009? dinosaur pile-up obviously. Vivian Girls. The Horrors new record is going to kill too. the hardcore band, not those wimpy scenesters covering sonic's songs. What are your plans for 2009? 2009 for us = tour. release something else. tour.
