The Magic Lantern are a chamber-folk fivepiece from London, whose debut album A World in a Grain of Sand is to be released on homebrew label Hectic Eclectic in a couple of weeks’ time. Produced by recent Brian Eno collaborator and guitarist Leo Abrahams, the album is dominated by carefully calibrated songs which spin out a kind of cinematic folk for several minutes each. It all begins, however, with something much more sparse - opener "Somebody Told Me" is an acoustic gem, not least because of a wise set of lyrics which muse on subjects no smaller than life and death themselves. Nothing short of spellbinding.
