Kite Hill are a strange bunch to describe. Formed around principle songwriter and composer Ryan Carley, this Canadian band creates complex structures of music with string, drum and wind all colliding together.
Kite Hill MP3: Kite Hill - Tom Thumbtack
Instead of national airplay or a speedy run around the summer festival circuit, you're more likely to find these guys creating overtures to Tim Burton films, or essentially becoming the band Danny Elfman never created. The download (above) for 'Tom Thumbtack' demonstrates the bands willingness to experiment, without losing sight of the overall song. The backing vocals pulsate with they type of 'ooohs' and 'ahhhs' reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands. It's dramatic, epic and larger than life. Later this summer Kite Hill will release a 13 track album entitled Rest & Run and I can guarantee a few weeks later they'll probably receive a congratulatory letter from Elfman. Beautiful stuff.
