Currently residing in New York, Charlotte Dos Santos' sound is the perfect combination of her jazz/soul influences and her Scandinavian roots (a good example being 'Red Clay', which you can hear below.) But what about the person behind the music? How would she describe herself? Was she a good kid?
We subjected Charlotte to the Greatest Q&A On The Internet and discovered folklore and tales play an important role in her life. Check it out below, and be on the lookout for her debut EP Cleo, which is out this May via Fresh Selects Label.
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Stubborn, Intuitive, Passionate, Expressionate, Ambitious.
When was the last time you tried something new?
Wow I am surprised how this question made me pause for a super long time, I can't really remember. I am a super habitual person, I almost eat the same thing for breakfast every day! I love to try new things though, I guess opportunity just has not presented itself lately. Well, the last thing I can recall was having veal brain in Paris a few years ago before my vegetarianism.
If a movie was made about your life, what actor/actress would play you and what would the film be called?
Naomie Harris as myself and the film would be called something like "The Boon of Late Blossoms" or something very Sundance-y.
What is the worst thing your parents caught you doing as a kid?
Smoking! For sure. Grounded for a month.
What inspires you?
People with determination and ambition, religion, folklore and tales, cinema, music - incidences and the surroundings of my everyday life!
What did you dream about last night?
Ok, honestly I dreamt that I got a hundred thousand followers on Instagram overnight and that this guy I have an eye for asked me if I was OK with him being poly. Which I would not be.
What’s your favourite album of all time?
Kind Of Blue. All compositions are completely timeless and will always be a milestone (hehe) and a classic in the history of jazz. Bill Evans does 65% of that album for me.
What is love?
Wow big question. Love is to me compromise, tolerance, acceptance, patience and support - a reciprocative circle of all these things combined to sum it up I guess? It is also butterflies, scatterbrain, giggles and non-stop smiles. And a bunch of songwriting to come out of it.
Lastly, what are you currently working on?
My debut EP Cleo is finished and finally ready to be released on Fresh Selects Label in May. It's a project I have been writing over the past three years, and features old and new material produced by myself as well as a few beats by fellow Oslo-native Fredfades. Super excited to finally show the world what I am about so keep your eyes and ears open for that!
