It took a good few years for Jonna Lee to complete her outstanding post-iamamiwhoami debut album as ionnalee, EVERYONE AFRAID TO BE FORGOTTEN, which came out twelve months ago. Riding high on its critical acclaim and the overwhelming success of an accompanying world tour, the Stockholm-based singer, songwriter and producer found herself in a creative whirlwind in which she has used every spare moment to make new music.

And so comes an unexpected, new chapter in ionnalee’s voyage, with the release of ‘OPEN SEA’, the first taster from her forthcoming second album, REMEMBER THE FUTURE.

Using a submarine sonar pulse as its bedrock, ‘OPEN SEA’ is a synth-rich underwater disco that gives a loving nod to the opulent arrangements of ‘Hunting for Pearls’ and ‘Blue Blue’ from iamamiwhoami’s 2014 album, BLUE. With aquatic metaphors and production flourishes that are seldom predictable, the track shows off an instantly effectual chorus melody.

For the ‘OPEN SEA’ video shown here, ionnalee again dons the role of director and, together with long-standing collaborator, cinematographer John Strandh, offers a short film which she describes as “low-fi sci-fi”.

Of REMEMBER THE FUTURE, ionnalee says: "As the tour finally happened, the audience response knocked me off my feet. It became a real game-changer for me. After my last album was made, there was no plan to go back into the studio. I was exhausted and have struggled with health and motivation to even continue working as an artist. But in between touring I found myself alone in my studio at every given chance, so inspired from that whole synergy I experienced with the audience on stage, that this natural flow happened, and I wanted to give back to them."

The record is billed as a hopeful, visionary story of daring to dream and shooting for the stars, despite the paradoxical, underlying chafing dystopia that we are destroying our planet. "To me, the album has a kinetic energy. I felt much more confident and free when producing it”, she states.

The single and album announcement is also accompanied by the release of some new North-American tour dates (for which ionnalee will be joined by TR/ST and Allie X):
