We're happy to present We Are Lions, the debut album from Italian duo, To You Mom. Meeting in 2013 at Italy's Conference for Cartographic Arts and GIS Mapping, the pair have only ever collaborated on one EP before embarking on this full-length offering. And what an offering it is: it's misty shoegaze flecked with ambient electronica, understated beats speckling the fogscapes of soundwashes and dream-angled melodies; sometimes cold and severe, other times swathing and ethereal, mostly a mix of the two – and almost always seasoned with bleak, greyscale emotion – We Are Lions paints with all-encompassing prowess a polished portrait of a music project barely two years old.

The duo were kind enough to answer a few questions we sent them via email:

What's the inspiration/idea behind the album?
It's been a very natural process. We both needed to exorcise something undefined and we didn't have a deadline, so we took our time to get in touch with our souls and compose these songs with a kind of purity. We Are Lions talks about the importance of achieving a higher state of consciousness from many perspectives: we cannot just passively succumb to the dullness routine of our everyday life, we have to believe in something that can illuminate us and we have to trust in Universe's good energies. Our dreams and our wishes are essential and we should never forget it. We owe it to ourselves.

Is there any particular time or place in the universe where it'd sound best?
That's a great question. I think the best way to enjoy We Are Lions is with your eyes closed and with some good headphones on, so that your mind will guide you in the place that you need to be in at that time. This could lead to a very emotional experience.

How do you hope or imagine people will react to it?
We just hope to give people a peaceful feeling. To be honest we cannot imagine the reaction, we just would like to spread a sense of serenity, isn't that what we all aspire to? Anyway, honestly, every single deep emotion brought about by our music will be very touching and gratifying.

It's out today via Ghost Records. Purchase it from Bandcamp, if you like.
