Jackie Mendoza is a new voice from San Diego, of Mexican descent. She uses these interwoven influences in her music, and has created a compelling introduction in new single 'De Lejos'. The track is about dealing with a long-distance relationship, and was originally written on ukulele, but was transformed in the studio with producer Rusty Santos. Mendoza explains:

“We transformed the sound of the ukulele and stripped down the instrumentation so the message would be the centerpiece of the song. It’s a big step out of my comfort zone, but I’m really excited about its final form.”

The result is a sparkling and unclassifiable slice of future pop. The washy sounds perfectly capture the idea that these are internal thoughts, and Mendoza's passionate but contained delivery gets the message of her unfulfilled desires across perfectly, whether you speak Spanish or not.
