You should already be pretty familiar with Jamila Woods; appearances on tracks with the likes of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Chance The Rapper have earned her a new legion of fans. With that, she's now set to unleash her debut project at the end of June called Heavn, preceded by the inspirational 'Blk Girl Soldier' which celebrates black girlhood and historically important black females including Assata Shakur, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks.

Speaking to Complex, Woods said "I wanted to celebrate the power and resilience of Black women but also highlight the importance of allowing space for more quiet, vulnerable moments where we can refuel ourselves and each other. The goal of the 'Blk Girl Solider' video is to lift up the Black women throughout history and today who inspire me and who are doing brilliant artistic and activist work. Knowing my history and what my people have survived before me has made me stronger." Look out for Heavn, which will be released in June via Closed Sessions.
