Sad news for Studio Ghibli fans: 72-year old director Hayao Miyazaki has decided to retire, making his animated fantasy presented this month at Venice Film Festival his last film.

"Miyazaki has decided that The Wind Rises will be his last film and he will now retire," said Studio Ghibli co-founder Koji Hoshino during a short announcement last weekend, promising a longer press conference in Tokyo next week: "He wants to say goodbye to all of you."

With critics all over the world praising The Wind Rises as Miyazaki's most mature film, the news about the Japanese animation genius' retirement will probably bring new attention to Studio Ghibli classics and conquer a few more hearts with their dreamy landscapes.
