With her new album Make My Head Sing... set for release next month via ATO Records, we caught up with American singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield to discuss her favourite albums (the girl's basically a hard rocker).

1. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on a Hill

this is my favorite album of all time, Elliott Smith was fucking brilliant, there is a never a time I've been "not in the mood" for this record. I love all of his records though, I named my dog Elliott, I have an ELLIOTT tattoo.

2. Stone Temple Pilots - Core

I've been in non stop love with this album since 2001, when I first heard it as an 11 year old. 'Creep' was the first song I ever learned on guitar. if I had never heard this album I imagine I'd be an entirely different person.

3. That self titled Queens of the Stone age record.

Fuck, I sometimes worry that the amount of time I've spent listening to this album is unhealthy.

4. Metallica - ...And Justice For All

"Justice is lost, Justice is raped, Justice is gone, pulling your strings/ Justice is Done. winning is all. find it so grim, so true. so real"

5. Nirvana - In Utero

Because duh, of course that's on here...

6. John Frusciante - To Record Only Water For Ten Days

I love all his shit, the sounds he creates are very visual. like little paintings. You can hear in everything he does that he's all emotion.
