Last year, we spoke with world-wandering musical multi-hyphenate Jitwam. around the release of his Purple EP through The Jazz Diaries (a label he runs with some close friends). At the time, he mentioned off-the-record that he was also working towards a new album. This week, he had news for us. That album, now titled Honeycomb, is due for release on May 3 through Copenhagen-based label Tartelet Records.

Where Jitwam.’s debut album ज़ितम सिहँ saw him laying down an extremely personal vision for futuristic lo-fi breakbeat blues, and the Purple EP gave him a chance to flesh out his Prince-informed uptempo disco-funk/house impulses, Honeycomb looks set to land him somewhere in between. Recorded at Steam Room Sessions studio in London with assistance from Natureboy and a bevy of session players, we’re told the record is inspired by Jitwam.’s reflections on a life that has seen him spend time living in India, Australia, Thailand, South Africa, the UK, and the US, as filtered through a lens life’s mundane moments expand into something bigger and ultimately more profound.

Jitwam. recently premiered a soulful cut from it titled ‘temptations’ through XLR8R, which you can listen to below via Soundcloud. With Marie Bashiru on backing vocals, and Jitwam. Showing us what he can really do on guitar, it’s a beautiful introduction to what looks set to be his most personal record yet. You can pre-order Honeycomb here.
