Filmmaker and composer John Carpenter (responsible for Halloween, Escape From New York, The Thing and, of course, Big Trouble In Little China, to name just a few) has announced that he will be releasing an album. His debut album, really, if you don't count all the soundtracks released for his films.

Called Lost Themes, it's scheduled for release 3rd February on Sacred Bones, and will also feature some remixes by the likes of Zola Jesus and Blanck Mass, amongst others.

He's shared 'Night', taken from the upcoming album, and it's very nice. At the most basic level, it's like a more menacing version of a Tangerine Dream song: the squelch of arpeggiated synth bass, ancient mystery swimming in a zither-like melody, persistent strings, the decay of analogue sounds crunching every now and then.
