Unpredictable musical carnival John Grant is releasing a new album called Love Is Magic on October 12th, and so far we've only heard the title track (as well as its adorable video) - but that changes this week as he gives us two more pieces of the puzzle in 'He's Got His Mother's Hips' and 'Touch & Go'. Ever the enigma, Grant is showing off two completely different styles in this new duo of tracks.

On the one hand we have the angular and bold 'He's Got His Mother's Hips', a strutting electronic ball of unfortunate charisma. Grant tells us that it's “about a cheeseball doing all he can to get into a woman’s pants, making a total ass of himself. It’s a fun song built on disgust.” You can certainly imagine the awkward gyrations along to the rhythm, and Grant doesn't hold back on the unfortunate grunting and purring that goes along with it.

The other half of this new offering is Love Is Magic's closing track 'Touch & Go', and as such is a much more sombre and measured affair that in fact was inspired by Chelsea Manning, as he explains: “I was very intrigued by her incredible story,” says Grant. “What kind of strength does it take to survive something like that while being decried as a traitor and a pervert for whom death is too good.”
