What does "inherent vice" actually mean? "Inherent vice is the tendency in physical objects to deteriorate because of the fundamental instability of the components of which they are made, as opposed to deterioration caused by external forces." Thank you, Wikipedia; with you by my side, I am learning every day. Let's hold hands.

With that out of the way, I can say that Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood) is working on or has been working on a film adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel, Inherent Vice. It is about a private investigator investigating (what else do they do except that, oh and looking serious and stoic) the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend – but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood has scored the soundtrack for the film, which amongst other things also features stuff from Can and Neil Young – plus 'Spooks', which everyone thought was a Radiohead song but turned out to just be "a half idea we never made work live," or so Mr. Greenwood tweeted. So he reworked it and gave it to Supergrass.
