Following Beyonce's probably non-coincidental awarding of the 2014 Video Vanguard Award at last year's VMAs, MTV will be awarding Kanye West during this year's ceremony.

The Video Vanguard Award (renamed the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 1991) is one of the few non-consistent music awards. While it has been given to an artist every year since 2013 (then Justin Timberlake), the award is not a guarantee to be distributed at every MTV VMA ceremony. In fact, West will only be the 8th artist given the award since 2000.

The award usually correlates with a lengthy performance from the individual, so one may expect a huge spectacle from West at the end of the ceremony, which takes place August 30th. With constant rumors of a new album swirling, this may be the prospective best place to debut new material.
