Update: Apparently Mr. West will not be appearing in Chiraq. A representative of his said: "Contrary to published reports, Kanye West will not be starring in Chiraq. However, there are discussions for West's possible involvement in the film's soundtrack, schedule permitting."

However, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson and John Cusack will appear in the film.

Screen Daily has reported that Kanye West will be starring in a new Spike Lee film called Chiraq. It's a musical comedy about a woman who wants to end gang violence in Chicago – and it's actually based on Lysistrata, an ancient Greek comedy about women who withhold sex from their partners in order to try and stop a war (but the "war" ends up being a battle of the sexes, basically).

In other news, as part of Chance The Rapper's ongoing series of open mic events – OpenMike – held for Chicago high schoolers, Yeezy himself and Vic Mensa made a surprise appearance, performing 'U Mad' and 'All Day' for the audience.
